The 2017 Toyota Prius V: Save Money this Summer

When you can save money on fuel like you can with the 2017 Toyota Prius v, you have extra to spend on dinners, souvenirs and a few more days in the sun.

Hybrid Technology

Just because you drive a hybrid does not mean the vehicle’s performance suffers in exchange for fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Toyota equipped the Prius v with the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive that can operate from gas only, electric only or both at the same time.

Toyota has employed technology to develop an energy management system that can sense the driving conditions and combine the data with a device that splits the power between the two drives for a seamless power flow. This means not only more power when you need it, but a powertrain up to 70 percent better for the environment than other engine choices.

Once you press the power button on the Prius v, it starts in the electric motor mode. This means no emissions. As you begin to drive, you get a combination of electric and gas to get up to speed. If there is a little excess energy left over, it goes directly to recharging the battery.

Regenerative brakes take brake energy and convert it to electric for the battery, so you can keep your batteries charged longer.

When the Prius v senses the battery is starting to lose power, the gas engine starts up to recharge the battery.

In addition, the Prius v lets you choose your driving mode. If you want to use electric power only, you can do that by selecting the EV mode. Additional modes are ECO that helps reduce emissions and Power that gives you more gas power for highway driving conditions.

There is a convenient energy monitor screen that shows you real-time data about the operation of your battery and the engine.

Interior Comfort

While all of this power-saving ability is good, unless the interior is comfortable and there is a lot of cargo space, it does not matter how much money you save on fuel.

Good news: the interior is equipped with a cabin offering you plenty of leg and headroom for everyone. It also has 1,906 litres of cargo space to put all of your toys in.

The 60/40 split rear seat folds flat, so if you need a place to put a bike or a flat-screen television, you can lay it down in the back. If you need more room, then an optional roof rack will open up the cargo area for other things like luggage.

The driver’s seat comes equipped with power lumbar support and cushion height adjustment. The passenger’s seat reclines back for quick naps during long trips.

Toyota offers a number of other packages that include infotainment choices, a sunroof, leather seats, heated seats and automatic high beams.

Safety equipment abounds and includes a backup camera and a vehicle proximity notification system. It comes equipped with the Star Safety System that includes Smart Stop Technology, Vehicle Stability Control, ABS, Traction Control and Brake Assist. It also has Electronic Brake Force Distribution. This entire package is designed to help you keep the vehicle under control in all road conditions. Additional safety equipment is available as optional package add-ons.
